Initially shown on cable (AXN), GMA 7 picked Slam Dunk up on their anime spree along with other classics. With the Philippines love for basketball, its popularity wasn’t surprising. What’s surprising is its cultural relevance: you still see people walking around with (replica/fake) Shohoku shirts and jerseys.
Kimi ga Suki da to Sakebitai is another mainstay in any anime fan’s song list - it’s powerful, cheesy, fun, relatively easy to sing, and has little to do with the series as whole.
SM Megamall, as mentioned in the previous episode, is the largest mall in the Philippines (sometimes). I had to pass by this mall everyday for years in my previous jobs so I never really realized how big the mall is compared to other malls. That said, I chose this for the second and third episode for the special anime-related events that happened in this mall, mostly conventions in the Megatrade halls. The ice skating rink and arrow range isn’t bad either.
